Afrofuturism is the framework I use to tell stories about transformation. It lets me look forward, not just back — toward what can still be built, imagined, and made new. The masks are where that work happens. Each one represents a moment of becoming: not fully past, not fully future, but something between. They carry both memory and invention at the same time.

My use of materials is inherited, not just chosen. I come from a line of seamstresses, woodworkers, and carpenters, and my research has traced that lineage back to West African descent. So when I work with wood, fiber, and organic materials, I'm continuing something that already existed in my family before me. Mixed media and embellishments are where I add my own layer to that inheritance — bringing in texture, color, and a sense of regality that make each mask distinctly mine. Every material choice is intentional. It connects the masks to a history of making that started long before I picked up a brush.
